Designed to make museums more interactive, personal, and relevant for younger generations, WONDERCUT is set to redefine how we experience cultural spaces in the digital age.
Project Overview
WONDERCUT is a forward-thinking initiative that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the way young people—especially Millennials and Gen Z—engage with museums. Through an AI-powered app, users can insert their faces into artworks from exhibitions, creating personalized and memorable experiences. This fusion of technology and art adds a fresh, interactive dimension to museum visits, making them more appealing and relevant to younger audiences.
The project addresses the growing influence of AI and emerging technologies across sectors, exploring the opportunities, challenges, and risks they present for the cultural and creative industries. In collaboration with four partners—INNOVATO (nonprofit, Slovenia), SHAPE LABS (creative sector, Slovenia), AIT (Austria), and the University of the Arts Berlin (Germany)—WONDERCUT examines how AI can add public value to the cultural sphere and supports broader, more democratic access to cultural institutions.
WONDERCUT aims to better understand the needs of museum-goers and to create engaging, participatory experiences. By treating AI as a creative tool, the project opens up innovative ways for people to interact with art, encouraging wider cultural participation. It speaks to professionals in the cultural and creative industries as well as to a broad audience that includes both regular museum visitors and those who are less engaged.
The University of the Arts Berlin (UdK) contributes to the research efforts of WONDERCUT by examining the role, potential, and practical uses of AI in museums and the wider cultural landscape.
